Guilty: I’m a CrossFit Addict!!!

Since my first class of crossfit, I knew that I had found my training perfect match <3. I tried a lot of classes such as yoga, body combat, pump, zumba, spinning, regular gym programs…but somehow I´d never felt ´natural´ and completely satisfied. So around 7 months ago I tried Crossfit and It was love at the first sight! Even though I have realised that it is not the sport for everyone since a couple of friends never came back…

It is very intense, fast and challenging, but after each training I always feel better, stronger and happier.  The philosophy behind crossfit is not being skinny so your clothes look better on you but to build a strong fit body.

What is CrossFit?

-It is an intense strength and conditioning exercise program which combines flexibility, speed, agility,  motor skills, balance, respiratory & muscular endurance.

-It uses non-traditional weightlifting equipment such as kettlbells, sand-bags, suspension systems or water-filled implements.

-It is structured in such way that participants are challenged to do a certain number of repetitions in a workout in a specific time frame.

-Participants will actually compete against each other to see how fast they can complete the daily workout and post their results in public.

Healthy Snacks for a Happy Movie Night!!!

All Sundays around 8 pm I start thinking about my job, exercising, walking my dog, visiting my dentist, etc.  But wait a minute! It is still a weekend so I better enjoy my last weekend hours watching a movie.

Nothing works better with my plan than having a perfect snack and you know what? It will be healthy as well. Check out here for a healthy evening snacks suggestions:

1. Quesadilla…yes, yes a Quesadilla but a healthier version

-Instead of tortilla use whole wheat pita

-Instead of manchego cheese use hummus and spinach

-“Pico de Gallo”: cut tomato and onion in small pieces, add a bit of lemon juice with salt

2.  Strawberry with banana yoghurt and almonds

-Remove the heart of strawberries, fill each strawberry with banana yoghurt and top it up with hazelnuts and walnuts. After 15 minutes in the freezer you´ll enjoy a delicious dessert!

3. Dark chocolate & almonds

-Melt 80% cocoa dark chocolate

-Put 5 almonds and cover it with the melted chocolate and top it with coconut shavings

-After 10 minutes in the freezer your chocolate treats are ready

Why Eating In Front of the TV Makes You FAT?

Let`s start from basics, just think about it :

1. Sitting for long leads to a major drop in your metabolism

2. Marketers nowadays know their job really well, so all the advertisements about food lead to increase of meal frequency thus weight gain

3. Eating in front of the TV  lead to weight gain because people are not aware of how much they have eaten

4. Think of all the time you have wasted in front of the TV being lazy and stuffing your face with chocolate or crisps rather than going to the gym and burning another 200 calories

5. Moreover people tend to consume 25% more later on in the day without even realising it

Is there a way to fix it?

We could suggest writing down previous meals or using visual reminders, such as wrappers of snacks, for example, that you had earlier in the day.

Your phone can help you with it as well! We have already been talking about Nutrition Apps! Check it out!

The Impact of Colour on Our Healthy Eating Habits

We have already mentioned that the size of the plate has an impact on the amount of food we eat. What’s more interesting, since we first eat with our eyes, the colour of the plate impacts our appetite too.

color eating, inspiration-by-happy-healthy-human(pic.source:http://www.examiner.com)

  • blue is an appetite suppressant ( it might be because there is not much food out there of this colour)
  • white encourages mindless eating
  • red, orange, yellow entice the palate
  • green, can trick us into a thought we are eating healthy, even when we don`t

Studies shown,  that if the colour of the food matches the colour of the plate, then we are inclined to eat more, and if they are contrasting the opposite is true.

It is important to eat in a mindful way and be aware that our environment e.g. the colour of the plate does impact our appetite. Remember  to cut down on calories 100-200 daily that will result in a weight loss of up to 5-10 kg over a year!
